Sam Miranda is throwing out the challenge to all winemakers to see who’s got the fastest winery of two wheels. The Sam Miranda King Valley team claimed victory over Brown Brothers in 2015 and are looking to repeat their success from last year.

Held in conjunction with the Sam Miranda Tour of the King Valley Stage 2 Criterium, teams of four (all from the same winery or brewery) will each ride a lap (1.3km) of the Wangaratta CBD Criterium Circuit on a “Pedal to Produce” bike before passing the bike onto the next team member. The winning team earns the title “Fastest Winery on Two Wheels”

Entry Fee is a dozen bottles of wine per team which will be auctioned at the Baker IDI Charity Auction to be held Saturday 20 August from 7:00pm at the Sam Miranda Cellar Door. MC for the night is Baker IDI Ambassador and former Australian Road Champion Will Walker as guest speaker. A special live cross to cycling commentator Matthew Keenan, during the night who will be calling the action at the Vuelta Espana.

About Baker IDI:

Baker IDI contributes to better health by forming partnerships with industry and communities of interest, such as the cycling community, to promote awareness of optimum approaches to the prevention and management of disease. Baker IDI scientists, medical specialists and public health experts are focussed on translating their findings into new approaches to prevention, treatment and care and one way they can do this is by providing credible and evidence-based information to the community that focuses on the role of lifestyle in enhancing longevity and quality of life.

Leading the peloton of research-enthusiastic cyclists is the Institute's William Walker. A former professional cyclist, Will's career was cut short due to a debilitating heart condition that forced his retirement. In 2014, Will helped establish the ‘Baker IDI Domestiques', a community of dedicated cyclists who support awareness and research into heart disease and diabetes through activities such as cycling days and sports dinners.

The Institute is pleased to welcome Australia's Tour de France commentator, Matt Keenan as Baker IDI's new ambassador for this group. Matt is supporting the Institute by making people aware of the devastating effects that heart disease and diabetes have on the lives of everyday Australians, and the important role that a healthy lifestyle plays in preventing and managing disease.
