Sam Miranda Riesling 2008
Lively lime and citrus flavours jump out on the nose, followed by a silky smooth, fresh palate and a dry minerally crisp finish. This wine is designed to be consumed chilled and will be a fantastic accompaniment to spicy Asian dishes and creamy pastas. Riesling is renowned for its ability to age and if you have the patience you will rewarded with a wine that will develop toasty honey aromas and flavours over the next 5 to 10 years
The grapes were crushed immediately after delivery to the winery so we could separate the juice from the skins as soon as possible. This minimises the extraction of hard phenolics and ensures that the wine will be delicate with a soft finish. It was fermented slowly at a relatively cold temperature of 8-10 degrees C to retain the fine fruit flavours and delicate structure of the variety. The finished wine was clarified and bottled early to trap the flavours for your enjoyment.
Riesling was one of the first varieties to be planted in the King Valley and could claim to be the finest white grape variety in the world on the basis of longevity and its ability to transmit the characteristics of a vineyard. This Riesling was sourced from a single vineyard at the base of Powers Lookout in the upper King Valley, which is influenced by the cold mountain air that funnels through the valley at night. It was grown on double wire trellis, and with a very low cropping level it enabled the grapes to develop an intense varietal character. It was harvested in the cool of the night to retain freshness, and to minimize oxidation of the juice.
